When I gave birth to my son over two years ago, to say that I was out of shape would be an understatement. My pregnancy was full of bed rest, all-you-can-eat ice cream binges, maternity sweat pants, and peanut butter. In my previous life, I was super active. Starting in high school, I was a […]
Hunger is constant. It can be satiated, but without fail, in a few short hours our stomachs growl again telling us it is time to eat. Just as our stomach is hungry for food, our souls are hungry for connection. This past October, after undergoing major surgery, just two months after unpacking boxes in a […]
We live in an age where the isolated nuclear family is the norm. I’ve heard many friends complain about the difficulty of forming friendships and community connections after a long day of work and parenting responsibilities. I’ll admit that I used to have the same difficulty until I invited the “purple-haired troll” and her daughter […]
“Just give me two minutes,” I say to my son and frantically add hashtags to my Instagram post for the day. #lifestyleblogger #motherhoodthroughinstagram. Is anyone else guilty of this? How about a quick check of your Facebook feed while you breastfeed? Especially during those long middle-of-the-night feeds. Social media is ever-present in our lives. It’s […]
It happened. My son got in the car and said it, “the kids are mean to me.” I could feel my insides burn with anger and sadness thinking of his feelings and the impact they will have on his future. We talked about ways to deal with this and it passed. I made it a […]
Portland is a city filled with transplants. So many of us have moved to the PNW from other states and countries, making this corner of the west coast a unique and, in my experience, a welcoming place for “the new people.” But, as my fellow transplants will likely agree, holidays can be lonely for those of […]
Our local libraries hold the key to the world with all the books they lend, but did you know that they also hold the key to the community? From story times to writers’ workshop, and tax preparation assistance to free admission at cultural destinations, libraries around Portland offer unique and often missed enrichment and support opportunities. […]
Looking for a great place to raise your sweet babies? Portland has no shortage of great neighborhoods, but I’m partial to Northwest Portland. I’ve been in the heart of NW for eleven years and I’m in love! Northwest Portland is perfectly walkable, and has access to great shopping, top notch hiking and wilderness, as well […]
It has been an incredible year at Vibe of Portland. Come join us as we unveil our new Studio AND celebrate our 10th year empowering Portland’s youth through art. Since programming began in 2008, Vibe has grown to work with 10 schools and serve over 3,000 kids. We could not have achieved this without our dedicated staff and the community’s generous support.
Bring the family to this free event on Saturday, September 23 between 10am and 2pm. Tour the new Vibe Studio (formerly the Cafe Au Play space), participate in family art projects, yard games, and raffles. Food cards will be on site with food for purchase. Come celebrate with us!
