Rose City Comic Con, a Portland tradition taking place THIS WEEKEND at the Oregon Convention Center, is famous among many for its celebration of all things sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, and more. This year, organizers have included a family-friendly twist to the event with the addition of Play Fair PDX, a fun-filled weekend of play and entertainment happening alongside Rose City Comic Con.
Think of it as a giant kids’ area with over 40 exhibitors and an epic line-up of interactive happenings, character meet-and-greets, film screenings, and more! Kids’ passes (ages 3-10) are good at BOTH events and children two and under are free. Get more information about pricing and grab your tickets here!
Interactive Sessions and Play
Play Fair PDX is focused on hands-on, activity-based fun, providing larger-than-life play experiences for attending families. The schedule of events over the three day event is pretty awesome, with highlights including slime-making with the Rip City Ghostbusters, Jedi training with the Saber Guild, and a kids’ costume parade hosted by Red Shoe Productions. There is even a 1600 square foot superhero training obstacle course!
I have kids ranging from 2-11 years old, and every one of them found a character to be giddy about meeting in person. The youngest was excited about Peppa Pig, while the middle kids freaked out (in a good way) about Poppy and Branch. The older one was mostly excited about The Incredibles. Whoever you are planning to meet, you can see the complete schedule here.
Fun for Parents, Too
Play Fair PDX tickets give you access to all of Rose City Comic Con. This means that in addition to the kid-focused activities at Play Fair PDX, parents get to geek out and enjoy the retro arcade, a tabletop gaming exhibition, a screening of Karate Kid, and even more celebrity guests!
