8 Indoor Activities for Toddlers in Portland

0

There are so many incredible things to do in our amazing city, but unfortunately, many of the local attractions are hard to do with a one-year-old. Even more, a handful of the good ones are off limits in the rainy season. Thankfully, there are some super fun Portland attractions for mamas with little kiddos that will keep you busy all winter and spring long. Here are my favorite indoor activities for toddlers around the metro.

Indoor Toddler Activities and Play Areas around Portland

1. Munchkin Playland

Serving Stumptown coffee for grown-ups (among other goodies for kids, too!) It’s a play area specifically for kids under 42 inches tall so you don’t have to worry about anybody getting trampled. Structures to climb, toys to play with, and free wi-fi for mom and dad.

2. Storytimes

We go to a handful of these each week! Whether you live in Washington, Clackamas/Happy Valley or Multnomah Counties, there are story times for all age groups to enjoy. Check your library listings for times.

3. Jenni and Tommy’s Kids Unplugged

This place is FANTASTIC for little ones. Though open play hours are a bit limited, this place has a handful of different rooms with varying themes and lots to explore.

4. Mall Fun Lands

Located in front of JC Penny, the play land at Washington Square mall has a good-sized play area of indoor toddler activities and structures to climb on. Clackamas Town Center also has a little ones play land. There are often big kids running all over, but my little guy likes to try to keep up.

5. The Wiggle Room

Owned by PMB contributor, Jessica, this fun spot in NE is 2,000 square feet of safe, padded floors, a 16′ x 20′ play structure, and slides, swings, padded blocks, toys, and brain-engaging fine motor activities for all kids, including those with special needs and sensory challenges, .

6. Portland Children’s Museum

This place has dedicated spaces for the littlest ones and with lots of employees, there is more control over the rambunctious older ones.

7. Maplewood Coffee & Tea

Maplewood is a great local coffee shop with an added bonus—a special Kid’s Nest area with books, toys, and a play area. You can grab your coffee and scone, and treat your young ones to a cup of hot chocolate.

8. OMSI Science Playground

While OMSI is great for older learners, it also really caters to the younger crowd with a little nook especially for the young ones. There are a lot of activities to keep them engaged, and wandering through the rest of the museum will make them wide-eyed, for sure!
