Advice Nurse

To the On-Call Advice Nurse,

I need to say some things to you. Most importantly, THANK YOU.

Thank you for calling me back much faster than the answering service said you would.

Thank you for listening to my ten-minute ramble about what my son could possibly have.

Thank you for not yelling at me when I hadn’t even taken his temperature yet.

Thank you for asking important questions.

Thank you for answering every single one of mine.

Thank you for staying calm when I was not.

Thank you for acting concerned about my child.

Thank you for suggesting home remedies that I hadn’t considered.

Thank you for answering my call after we hung up and I called you back two minutes later.

Thank you for doing a thorough analysis of my child’s situation, even though I only gave you, “He seems fine, but ya know, he coughed a few times on Tuesday and he seems a little off today so I just wanted to be sure nothing was wrong,” as a description.

Thank you for forgiving me when I didn’t know how many wet versus dirty diapers my son had in a day.

Thank you for not drawing attention to the fact that I’ve called in once a week for some time now.

Thank you for not snapping at me in reply to, “Are you sure?”

Thank you for being smart and not sounding as if you’re reading from the same Google search page that I’m staring at.

Thank you for suggesting a visit to the ER even though I really didn’t want to go.

Thank you for being awake, alert, and ready to help when I call at 3 a.m.

Thank you for working at 3 a.m.

Thank you for not judging me as a mother.

Thank you for kindly ignoring the repetitive shouting out to my husband.

Thank you for helping me sort through each and every one of my hypotheticals.

Thank you for holding so I could finally check his temperature.

Thank you for listening while I put the phone up to my screaming son to prove how much pain he seemed to be in.

Thank you NursesThank you for always being there.

Thank you for helping me take care of my son.

Thank you for sacrificing time away from your own.

Thank you for making parenting a little easier.

Again, I thank you so much.

Sincerely,

Jackie (and moms everywhere)
