Group Fun for Everyone at Portland’s Punch Bowl Social

Girls (especially moms) just want to have fun, #amiright!? And let’s face it, our kids and spouses feel the same way. For our recent PMB contributors holiday get-together, we were in search of a fun and unique spot for a mom’s night out–something family-friendly but also possessing some sophistication and style. Our search brought us to Punch Bowl Social.

Disclosure: We received complimentary food, bowling and karaoke from Punch Bowl Social in exchange for sharing this review, but all opinions are our own and we only promote businesses that we trust and that we think our readers would enjoy.

Located in the heart of downtown at Pioneer Place since 2013, Punch Bowl Social offers bowling, darts, shuffle board, private karaoke, ping pong, arcade games and plenty of food and drink (including their signature punch bowls). One of our contributors described it this way:

“It’s like my college student union…but with a bar.” – Roxie

How the moms partied

All of us commented upon our arrival on the fun vibe and decor–a sort of vintage modern feel that we unanimously loved. The staff helped us live up to their tagline: “Eat. Drink. Be Social.” We all bowled (fairly terribly) while enjoying our appetizers and beverages. We were impressed with their broad menu selection. We then headed to a private karaoke room. Private is the only way some of us would even dare to pick up the microphone, but even in this instance a few were reluctant. Once we got going, however, we all had an absolute blast, and it turned out to be the highlight of our mama happy hour! Lots of laughter and zero parenting responsibilities for a couple of hours was just what we needed to refresh all of us both individually and as a team.

Who should go

We all agreed that it was a fantastic spot for a girls night out or perhaps a group date night. One contributor celebrated a friend’s 40th birthday there earlier last year, where they mainly played shuffleboard, table tennis, and hung out on swanky couches. Another contributor was interested in hosting an office party there. But, it can also be a great family friendly destination, too. When we arrived, a local preschool party was just wrapping up at several of the bowling lanes, and the kids and parents were all smiles at the end of their Punch Bowl Social time. Work party, school party, girls night out, date night, birthday celebrations–it’s a great destination for any of these and can definitely accommodate gatherings large or small.

We would all return to Punch Bowl Social. If we’re with the kids you’ll probably see us at the bowling lanes, but if we can sneak away for some grownup time, we’ll likely be the ones singing 80s and 90s hits in another private karaoke party.
