Hello Portland! My name is Connie Armerding, PMB’s new contributor. I’m so glad to be joining a community of women who aim to resource mothers across the greater Portland area. I’m hailing from the beautiful town of Hood River. My husband grew up in this small town, and since early in our relationship, talk of migrating back to this wonderland has been a consistent theme through the years. Thirteen years into marriage and four children later, the inevitable move finally came about. We’re eight months in to our PNW transplant, and are in awe of the beauty that surrounds us.
Turns out that this transition came at the perfect time for our growing children. My tribe consists of nine-year-old fraternal twin girls, a six-year-old son, and our four-year-old daughter. All my kids are active and love adventure. It has been so fun to see them explore, risk, and grow in this new environment. They’ve tackled a few of the world-renowned mountain bike trails near our house, given the SUP board a try on the Columbia river, and now with record levels of snowfall this winter, have hit the slopes for the first time.
We attempt to get outside every chance that we get, and have been spoiled by the endless trails that are easily accessible along the Columbia Gorge. I’m learning that being a parent is a wonderful and unique opportunity to introduce my children to the things I enjoy, and to relish the opportunity to experience something new with them by my side. We’re learning more about each other in the process, and the laughter has exponentially increased.
Life with four children is full and demanding as any mother knows. In the rare instance I have time to myself, my day would mostly likely begin with a long walk to clear my mind and spark inspiration. This walk would lead me to Stoked Roasters & Coffeehouse down by the Hood River waterfront park where I would be found reading and writing and enjoying views of the Columbia river. I would round out this idyllic day by meeting my best friend and husband, Taylor, at Pfriem Family Brewers (also conveniently located on the Waterfront) for a craft beer and mouth-watering cuisine.
As a new contributor, I am excited to share my unique perspective as someone new to the greater Portland area. Many treasures that may seem familiar and normal to most, I am seeing for the first time. My hope is to breathe new life into adventures and opportunities that may otherwise be overlooked. I am eager to explore Portland and is surrounding areas, and look forward to sharing my discoveries along the way!
